The scheme of examination for CGL was revised in 2017 and the new exam pattern will be effective from 2018. Here’s a detailed SSC CGL Exam Pattern.

The SSC CGL Tier I is mandatory for all the posts and its marks are counted further. Candidates to qualify to the Tier II exam should secure the cut-off marks.

Paper Mode: Tier 2 will be conducted online
 
Questions will be of the Objective type with multiple choices. Candidates can choose either Hindi or English Medium.
 
Paper-I & II are compulsory for all the categories of posts.
 
Paper-III is compulsory for candidates who opt for the Statistical Investigator Grade II & Compiler Post.
 
Paper IV is compulsory for candidates who opt for the Assistant Audit Officer post.
Candidates should qualify Tier 2 exam to move on to Tier 3.

Negative Marking: There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks in Paper-II and 0.50 marks in Paper-I, Paper-III, and Paper IV for each wrong answer as given below.

combined graduate level (CGL TIER-III) examination

The Tier III of the SSC CGL Exam is a written exam and of descriptive nature to assess writing skills of the candidates. Candidates who clear the Tier I and II exam qualify for the Tier III exam.

  • SSC CGL Tier 3 exam has been introduced with effective from CGLE 2018.
  • The exam is descriptive type.
  • Paper Mode:  Offline.
  • The paper carries 100 marks and the duration of the paper is 1 hour.
  • This Tier has been introduced to assess the writing skills of the candidates which is necessary in the Government jobs.
  • The Paper comprises Essay writing; Passage of 250 words, Letter or Application Writing of approximately 150 words.
  • The qualifying marks in Tier-III would be 33%.
  • The paper will have to be written either in Hindi or in English.
  • The questions in this paper would be of 10+2 standard.
  • The aggregate marks secured by the candidates in Tier I & Tier II will be taken to determine the eligibility of the candidates to qualify in Tier III & Tier IV.

combined graduate level (CGL TIER-IV) examination (wherever applicable)

Candidates who successfully clear the Tier I, II, and III exam will qualify for the Tier IV. The SSC CGL Tier 4 Exam is easy and simple compared to the other three tiers.

In this tier, candidates should clear Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) also known as Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) where a candidate is required to type 8,000 words in 1 hour or 2000 words in 15 minutes. This test is meant to check the candidates’ data entry speed in computer.

All candidates (except those who have opted for the post of AAP and Junior Statistical Officer) should appear for the SSC CGL Tier IV exam. The Tier 4 is of qualifying nature this marks will not be counted for the final ranking.

Candidate who fail in the Tier IV exam i.e. in the DEST/CPT then the candidate would not be considered for the respective posts mentioned below, however, the candidate is considered for recruitment in other departments.

SSC CGL TIER III EXAM: The Tier III of the SSC CGL Exam is a written exam and of descriptive nature to assess writing skills of the candidates. Candidates who clear the Tier I and II exam qualify for the Tier III exam. The standard of the paper is of 10+2 level.
Total Marks assigned to Descriptive paper in CGL TIER 3 is 100 marks and will include below given topics.
